Recently, Department of Physics, Hasanuddin University extended research collaboration with renowned universities in the United States and Europe, namely with the Department of Physics, Boston University and the Institute for Theoretical Physics, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Collaboration includes such aspects as the exchange of research information, collaboration among researchers and hosting researchers. Chairman of the Physics Department, Dr. Tasrief Surungan stated that cooperation is a part of an effort to build a International network in order to achieve the vision and the mission of the university to become a real world class university. The memorandum of understanding was signed each in Boston, USA in August and in Zurich in September 2014. The cooperation agreed upon by both parties will effectively last for four years, ie, until December 31, 2018 and could be possibly extended to wider areas, including a possibility to be upgraded to the Faculty or University level. In World University rankings, http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/ Boston University is ranked 57, while ETH Zurich is ranked 13. Seen from here, this cooperation is expected to improve the ranking of Hasanuddin University, which is currently still very far below, in the order of thousands.
Cooperation with foreign universities which previously signed are with Tokyo Metropolitan University, Southern Denmark University and Adelaide University. The physics department has also worked with a number of research studies in the country, among others, with BATAN, Indonesian Center for Theoretical and Mathematical Physics which is based in ITB. New research agreement which was signed last week is with the Research Center for Physics, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).
The existing cooperations are expected to be supported by all parties, in particular by the top leadership of the University, as such cooperation could be upgraded to university level in the future. (admfisika).
